The main attraction at High Falls Gorge remains the splendid 700 feet of waterfalls in the Ausable River and its unique look into the Adirondack natural history and beauty. In the shadow of Whiteface Mountain, the West Branch of the Ausable River catapults over rocks into a deep crevice carved a billion years ago by the forces of ice water and wind. Modern bridges and groomed paths allow visitors to enjoy a leisurely stroll while viewing the four plunging waterfalls as they flow 700 feet through dark pools, pot holes and the scenic splendor of the gorge. Informational signs tell the story of the New York’s largest pothole, the ancient rock, the climax forest and the history of the Ausable River. The physically challenged will find specially designed walkways that access the center of this intriguing park without the use of steps. Mine for gemstones, arrowheads and more at the Ausable River Mining Co. Picnic areas. Riverview Cafe.
