Every year, for the past 15 years or so, this excellent periodical asks me to write an article which they publish for the season. I do so each year honored that I have been asked, then I am further honored that people actually read what I have written and comment on what they have read. This year, I am again honored to have been asked. I would like to communicate to you some of the history and some anecdotes that FISH307 has encountered over the past 20 years.
So let’s start with some history. FISH307 started as Peace Pipe Cottages and Bait & Tackle on January 22, 1992. In 1994, we changed the Bait & Tackle name to Peace Pipe Fishing Outfitters. During that same year, we got an 800 phone # which still is 1-800-FISH307 (3474). When we entered the internet age, we used FISH307.com as our address. In 2002, we sold the Peace Pipe Cottages and moved the fishing tackle store to Lake George. We’re now in our 3rd location at the north end of the outlets in a beautiful log building with 6,000 sq ft of space. Having started in only 780 sq ft, it is obvious that there has been some growth, Thank You.
Here are some funny questions we have been asked over the years. We had a woman come in and ask for healthy food so she can feed the ducks. My wife very patiently explained to her that it wasn’t good to feed the ducks, and please don’t feed them. They are wild animals, and by giving them food in that way creates an unhealthy balance and an unnatural dependence. The woman insisted on feeding them so my wife asked her, “What do you think happens to the ducks when all the tourists leave at the end of the summer?” The woman very seriously replied, “Don’t the environmental people come and pick them up?” This is a funny and sad story. The animals are not props. They live here all year, and we need to be better stewards of our surroundings.
Here are some other questions we have been asked over the years. There are 2 beaches in Bolton Landing, which one is closer to the water? If I go for a ride on one of the tour boats on the lake, will I see whales? I noticed there is a menu for one of the local eateries, do they serve a good breakfast? I wanted to know how many pancakes they have in a three stack? I could go on for a long time.
I would just like to say that this being our 20th year seems a bit surreal. Without your support and the trust you have put into our business, we would not have been able to thrive. So on behalf of the entire staff (past & present), THANK YOU…YOU are the best!
