• Let’s Take A Ride: Warrensburg to Blue Mtn. Lake

Warrensburg, up Route 9 north, is a quiet upstate village, proud of its stately Yorker homes and antique shops. The town was founded by enterprising Yankees who built saw mills, tanneries, and grist mills (one currently being a fine restaurant) along the banks of the Schroon River This was the birthplace and early home of pioneer aviator, Floyd Bennett, whose name is not only part of our Warren County Airport, but is also named for the bandstand in the center of town (across from which is another excellent restaurant). Warrensburg boasts a NY State Fish Hatchery as well as the DEC Regional Headquarters. Along the beautiful Hudson River is a first class golf course. Following Route 418 off Route 9 and across the bridge southeast to Stony Creek, you’ll encounter a popular family ranch that offers Saturday rodeo events and also their fine golf course. The picturesque mountain hamlet is known for the annual three-day “Mountain Days” celebration each August. Take Route 28 up to Johnsburg and North Creek, home of Gore Mountain Ski Center that offers spectacular fall foliage gondola rides. The great crowd gathering annual Hudson River White Water Derby is held each May. Take a 2- hour scenic train trip on the Upper Hudson River Railroad along the Hudson River and the Adirondack wilderness. Further north along Route 28 is Route 30 for a visit to Blue Mountain Lake and the renowned Adirondack Museum. You’ll see some outstanding scenery in and through this area as you travel old country roads, dense woodland, and natural wilderness.
