Located in a restored 19th Century New World Dutch barn, the Slate Valley Museum tells the story of slate quarrying and about the immigrants who settled in the Slate Valley through several programs, exhibitions and special events.
Exhibits on Display:
• Ongoing – “Heavy Lifting: A Human and Technological History of Moving Slate from Quarry to Market, 1850 – Present”
• Through October 23, 2010 – “Austere Luxury: Two Artists Find Slate and Bring It Home” - Married Russian artists Felix Kniazev and Olga Julinska display an interior space where local slate, hardwood, powder coated steel, and handmade ceramics are all performing a symphony together. The line between art and functionality in this collection of furniture and decorative pieces is blurred, inspiring viewers to see exceptional beauty in common native materials.
• Through December 30, 2010 – “To Life! A Celebration of Vermont Jewish Women and Because God Loves Stories/ Jewish Storytelling” – depicts the life stories of 20 Jewish women living in Vermont, from all walks of life, ages 12 to 101.
