• Spring 2013 in Lake George – April Fun

    April in Lake George NY… a special time of year! This Spring Lake George month boasts incredible fun for the whole family – including a variety of exciting adventures, explorations, activities & events to enjoy. By this time of year, the snow has melted & families can enjoy warmer weather outdoor activities. April, in particular, officially jump-starts a variety of popular recreational activities including whitewater rafting, hot air ballooning, and the trout fishing season.     As for events, April yields an assortment of enjoyable calendar events. The following include some highlighted ones:

    Warren County’s Bicentennial (1813-2013) – In celebration of 200 years, monthly events take place within Warren County. April’s Bicentennial event features the Chapman Historical Museum exhibit, “Parchments, Papers & Prints: 200 Years of History from the Warren County Archives” (exhibiting April 11 – Sept. 9, 2013).     Lake George Half Marathon – Participate, volunteer or cheer for the runners of this 3rd annual half marathon, 5K run/walk, and fun run event in Lake George (April 21, 2013). It starts & finishes at the Fort William Henry Hotel & Conference Center’s parking lot across from the Lake George Steamboat Company on Beach Road. Visit the official website for more information.

    Maple in April Festival – Although March is known as the maple month, Hadley/Lake Luzerne area extends the maple season with their annual “Maple in April Festival” Weekend (April 26-28, 2013) featuring everything maple including maple samples, morning breakfasts, maple confections, maple cooking contests, artist walk, and more. 9AM to 4PM on Rockwell Street in Hadley.     Washington County Farm & Fiber Tour – Just east of Warren County is Washington County, New York. Don’t miss their 21st Annual Farm & Fiber Tour (April 27-28, 2013), a chance to visit a variety of farms throughout Washington County. This scenic drive yourself farm tour provides the opportunity to discover the farm animals of Washington County, including: alpacas, llamas, goats, lambs, sheep, and bunnies. Also, meet the farmers, observe demonstrations (spinning, knitting, weaving, felting), learn about making livestock as pets, and shop for high quality fleeces, knitted items and handspun yarns. Tours take place 10AM-4PM both days. Visit www.washingtoncountyfibertour.org for participating farms.
