• Trout Fishing Season Begins in New York State

    April 2nd, 2011

Fishing is a wonderful outdoor recreational sport that families and friends, of all ages, can enjoy together. New York State Fishing rivals that of any other state in the country, especially with its wide variety of fish. Trout, in particular, is a very popular fish in our New York water, and April 1st is the official day Trout Season begins. That means, anyone is permitted to fish for brook trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, as well as Lake Trout. Within New York State, there are more than 7,500 lakes and ponds, and 50,000 miles of rivers and streams. In the Adirondack alone, there are more than 2,800 lakes & ponds, 1,500 miles of rivers and 30,000 miles of brooks and streams. That’s a lot of fishing waters to choose from! But before you go, be sure to purchase a fishing license – it’s required by law! New York State residents and non-residents can choose from a 1 day, 7 day, or annual license – which can be purchased at municipal, town, or village offices, as well as bait & tackle shops. These tackle shops can also help you with fishing supplies & equipment, answers and advice. To find out more about fishing license information and for informative articles written by experienced and professional anglers, please click here.
